How To Make A Coupon Popup For Your eCommerce Store In WordPress (3 Steps)

How to make a coupon popup

Here we are going to use the Advanced Coupon and OptinMonster plugin.

Step – 1. Create your coupon code

First, we are going to create our coupon code. Before that, make sure you already install and activate the Advanced Coupon plugin in your WordPress dashboard.

Now to create a coupon, go to Coupons > Add New, click the Generate coupon code button and write the description for your coupon.

Now scroll down to the Coupon data section and select the discount type of your coupon. Next, you need to enter the amount.

Make sure you don’t forget to set some coupon restrictions and/or cart conditions because a 25% coupon discount with no conditions could be a dangerous thing.

Now it is time to configure conditions for your coupon. To do that, switch to the Usage restrictions tab. Here you can choose which products or which category of products the discount coupon should apply.

There is a Rules section although it is a part of the Advanced Coupon premium, here you can set up and/or rules using a broad range of predetermined conditions.

Now, move forward to the next step, where we are going to create our popup.

Step – 2. Create your popup

Creating a popup with OptinMonster is too easy and the cool thing is it is a drag and drop popup builder, so you don’t need any coding knowledge.

So, first, install the OptinMonster WordPress plugin. Once you have done this, go to OptinMonster and click on the Create New button under Popup.

Next, OptinMonster will ask you to choose a template for your popup. There are lots of templates available, you can choose one of those. But all of them are not free, some of them only for premium users. Here I choose the Coupon template. 

After clicking the Use Template button, you will be redirected to the popup customization section, where you are able to edit your popup and customize it according to your needs.

To edit any text or element, simply click on that and change it. To add a new block, click on the Add Block button and add your block. It is so easy to customize.

After customizing your popup, switch to the Success tab. In the Success tab we need to put our coupon code because when someone successfully subscribed, we will show them the coupon code.

If you want to collect emails and build an email list, then you need to connect your OptinMonster account with an email service provider like Constant Contact.

Now you can go ahead and save your coupon design but don’t close the editor yet.

Step – 3. Set up display rules for the popup

Setting up display rules is important. To set up display rules for your popup, click on the Display Settings option.

Here you can see different options, choose it according to your requirements.

Since most coupons aren’t permanent offers, I suggest that you select the never, or until browser cookies are cleared option. That way, if a user isn’t interested, they won’t have to see the popup again.

Coupon popups are one the best ways to engage customers with your store and increase your sales and revenue. It also helps you to build an email list that can be used to retarget your customers.
